Sorry, but I gotta talk politics for one second.

Wed Aug 20, 2008, 6:03 AM
So I don't know how you might swing as far as politics goes these days and I'm not about to preach to anyone about politics or anything else for that matter, but man, I am really starting to lose confidence in the human race. Americans in general. Now, if I had to claim a political party, and this is like gun against my head, I would say I was a democrat. But a lot of young people tend to be more liberal in their ideals, especially the artist community. However, American politicians are the sleeziest, most vial people in the world in my opinion and the fact that the biggest one of all, let's call him . . .W., getting re-elected for a 2nd term makes me feel nothing but disdain and anger at the majority of American voters. But I got over it and looked to 2008. I was generally happy with the two party canidates as McCain was one of the few republicans that I actually kinda liked. However, the short article below has once again stomped on any hope I had for American politics:

"Rick Warren solemnly stated at the beginning of his interview with Obama and McCain- 'John McCain has been placed in a Cone of Silence and can not hear
the questions that were being placed to Obama - they will both be asked the same questions.'
Andrea Mitchell, a very non-partisan reporter on NBC, said the next morning that she doubted it (setting off a firestorm of anger and denial from the McCain camp).
Rick Warren himself admitted on CNN the next day that McCain had not actually arrived at the beginning of the program: HE WAS STILL IN HIS CAR!!!
Now, being that this is the 21st century, do you think it possible that McCain had a laptop, a TV, a blackberry or even just a plain old radio in that
car with him? Hmmm?
When McCain arrived, he laughingly stated that he was trying to "hear through the wall" (from the Cone of Silence to Obama's answers)
So Warren lied (he said he was misinformed) about the "cone of silence" and McCain lied about being in the 'Cone of Silence' (in which he wasn't) .
Do you think the man who stumbled and bumbled through the Sunni/Shiite and the Viagra questions - among many others - and gets his geography mixed up on a regular basis
could have strutted out on that stage and hit all those answers with quick, confident sound bytes HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE QUESTIONS WERE GOING TO BE? NOT POSSIBLE.
Do you think McCain, who was furious (and his wife was in tears) 8 years ago when Rove smeared him, is now using Roves' #2 man, Steve Schmidt,
to play dirty and help him win this campaign because he was not doing well on his own? ABSOLUTELY. He should have used THAT example when Warren asked him:
"What do you believe now that you didn't believe 10 years ago?"
"Well, Rick, I believe that it's now ok to use the Rove underhanded and dishonest smear tactics to get elected at any cost because 10 years ago,
he was on my opponent's side and well, now he's on my side."

Do you think the American people would be better off with a man who graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at West Point and who's "secondary
education" was Flight School, OR a man who graduated as president of the law review from Harvard Law?

Since McCain supports the Bush economic and trade policy that has left us in a desperate situation, why does he enjoy such support? People aren't quite
hurting enough yet I guess. Maybe by the time they are, it will be too late.

Since Schmidt has graduated from being an advisor to McCain to basically running the campaign as of a month ago, McCain's poll numbers have gone
steadily up. The Rove-fear-tactics worked before and it looks like it's working again.

Obama says change won't be easy - it will require sacrifice. Are Americans willing to sacrifice? We were told after 9/11 to "go shopping." I am afraid the American people really
do not want to sacrifice.

They want to go shopping."

I know it gets a little preachy for Obama at the end there, and if you don't like Obama, then I'm sorry. But he is right. America needs change, and change will require sacrafice. Is Obama the right guy for the job? I don't know. But something needs to be done, and it needs to happen now. If the American people don't wake up and do something, never again will we mention another president's name along side those of Washington, Lincoln, or Roosevelt.
