Comics in Hollywood

Sun Oct 19, 2008, 1:34 PM
I am so damn tired of seeing that politics journal on my front page, that i decided to write a random entry. These are my ten favorite comic book movies as of right now. I say right now for two reasons. One, new ones come out all the time and can change the list. And two, just like with books, tv shows or other movies, my favorites can greatly depend on the mood i'm in. So, for right now, the best comic book movies in my opinion.

10. Hellboy. I knew next to nothing about the character when I saw it, but after i did, I went out and read everything on Hellboy. It was so different and interesting. It was very well designed also.

9. 300. A fun, stylistic movie that was shot beautifully. Plus, the fight scenes kicked ass.

8. Sin City. This movie put Frank Miller's graphic art style onto the big screen. It was new and it was cool. Plus, hot chicks, graphic violence and Bruce Willis. You got a winner in my book.

7. The Incredible Hulk. This did what Ang Lee's didn't. It was badass and fun. Ed Norton was great as Banner and i was a big fan of the Romita Jr. stories it was loosly based on.

6. Spider-man 2. The inner struggle of Peter Parker is at it's greatest in this one. He is one of the most troubled characters in comics and this movie showed that. Also, Alfred Molina was perfect as Doc Ock.

5. X2: X-men United. The first one was good, this one was better. It was much less campy then the first one, and brought out the emotion's of the characters the X-Books did so well. Plus, the Wolverine berserker in the mansion.

4. Blade. In my opinion, the movie that really jump started comic book movies. It showed that comics weren't all silly, kids stories. This was graphic, emotional and had good character development. An R rating helped too.

3. Batman Begins. Got back to the dark roots and origin of not just Batman, but Bruce Wayne himself. That is what really made the movie for me. Bruce Wayne wasn't just a minor character like previous incarnations. He was the man behind the mask.

2. Iron Man. The thing that made this movie great, other than awesome visual effects, great cast and fun story, was the character development. The chemistry between Stark and Potts was great. The superhero came second to the characters in this one.

1. The Dark Knight. What can I say that hasn't already been said by every newspaper, movie critic and Joe Ruff out there? Great cast. Brilliant movie.

I so can't wait for Watchmen. I hadn't read the comics, and had been trying to find them for a while, I went to Barnes and Noble a few months ago and they had a new shipment of the graphic novel/ trade/ whatever you want to call it. I'm about half way through... if this movie is done right its going to top the list.

On the Joe scale, Spider-man 2 is tops. Dark Knight is pretty close. If Mad Men were a comic book movie, it would be better than any of these.
